Soft reflector increases the lighting area, which makes the light softer. A more generous light distribution reduces or even eliminates undesirable reflections (e.g. on greasy skin).

And because the distance between the light and the shooting axis is increased, the red-eye effect is reduces as well.

Another plus of the soft reflector is the high light output at 2 m with 3200 J f:45 6/10.
